Introduction to GPSMap 276c:

Garmin released the 276c as the successor to their 176c marine unit in April 2004, an all-in-one, versatile, color chartplotter and automobile navigator - perfect for land or water.

Specifications Highlight:
Water Proof IPX7; you can submerge in water to 1 meter depth for 30 minutes.
Favorite locations 3,000
Track logs 20 "Saved Tracks"
Track points 10,000
Saved Routes 50
Automotive / Motor Bike Friendly
the backlighting in the 276c is NOT a fluorescent tube, but rather uses white LEDs - it will not yellow over time.

improve a new GPSMap 276c:

If you recently purchased a new 276c, first thing I'll suggest first thing to do is to upgrade the unit firmware to latest version; V5.60, software version before V5.1 doesn't support NT maps.

The GPS Reciever has 12 channels, but I'm not sure about the make, is it sirfII or before, the most important that  it is recommended to enhance the signal quality by adding external GPS Antenna, you can choose one of these:

In the original purchased box, you find a marine mount, so if you will use your unit in automotive mode you will need to get yourself Automotive mount and maybe a cigaret lighter charger.

Garmin offers a simple automotive mount which needs to be fixed with double face adhesive piece included with the mount. be careful if you use it on a leather dashboard!! it will leave a stain after removal

Best Mounts for 276c can be obtained from the American Co. "RAM Mounts"

Old GPSMap276c, what needs repair or maintenance?

After using the device for 2 to 3 years, most likely the main battery will be exhausted and won't charge any more, so you will need to get a new battery replacement, like this one:

You will know time for replacing battery once your device switch off when it is disconnected from the external charger.

Another common happening, 276C will start losing time when it's off. Although the Battery Indicator shows a full charge, the reason behind that; There's a small button battery inside the unit that keeps power to a bit of memory that stores almanac data. When this battery craters, you loose the internal time and the unit takes much longer to re-quire sat. coverage.

Replacing the internal battery in GPSMap 276c:

First remove the screws from the box shell and the ring of the antenna base connector:

Tomb, 276c is using a special data card like this one:

and Montana is using Micro SD cards. when you buy maps from Garmin, they will provide you with unlock code for 1 device, so for city navigator map you have to purchase 2 maps. on the other hand for UAE & Oman off-Road Map, Masarat GPS can provide you with 2 unlock codes for your 2 devices.

Best Place to buy new Garmin city maps is Garmin web store; https://buy.garmin.com/shop/buymaps.do

for UAE & Oman Off-Road Map, contact Masarat GPS: http://www.masarat-gps.com/contact_english.php

Kind Regards,
