GPS and Mobile News / Garmin Map Middle East and North Africa NT 2013.10 is out
« Last post by Lonewolf on May 01, 2012, 07:13:48 AM »
New update is out for Middle East and North Africa Garmin Maps, no new countries added, the focus was on adding more details to KSA, Oman & Egypt, minor changes and additions took place for other countries.

Garmin launched too many updates this year, the versions : 2012.10, 2012.20, 2012.30, 2012.40 & 2013.10

I believe that Garmin could combined all of those updates in one release and launch it when ready, but it looks like that Garmin found an easy way to obtain more money from it's customers!!

Thanks & Regards,,

and Montana is using Micro SD cards. when you buy maps from Garmin, they will provide you with unlock code for 1 device, so for city navigator map you have to purchase 2 maps. on the other hand for UAE & Oman off-Road Map, Masarat GPS can provide you with 2 unlock codes for your 2 devices.

Best Place to buy new Garmin city maps is Garmin web store; https://buy.garmin.com/shop/buymaps.do

for UAE & Oman Off-Road Map, contact Masarat GPS: http://www.masarat-gps.com/contact_english.php

Kind Regards,

Garmin GPS Training / Garmin GVN 53 update
« Last post by Lonewolf on December 19, 2011, 08:33:11 PM »

If you are using Garmin GVN53 in the Middle East, you must noticed that the spell search through points of interest is not working, because The middle east map has 2 languages for labels; English and Arabic. While for other maps like Europe City Navigator, North America, South Africa, and other single language labels, it was working perfectly.

Now the good news; Garmin has responded finally to users requests in the middle east and launched a new firmware update to fix this issue, the new version 2.5 can be found in Garmin web site, here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00668-00

In order to update your GVN53, download the update file, then unzip it or execute it, and copy "gupdate.gcd" to empty SD card inside a new folder and rename this folder to "Garmin"

While the device is turned off, remove the existing SD card and insert the one with the update file, then turn on the device and confirm the installation of the new software, after the completion the unit will restart itself, after the device complete booting, turn it off and replace the update SD card with the Map SD Card.

Changes made from version 2.40 to 2.50:◦Added support for maps over 2GB in size.
◦Corrected an error that may cause a reset while searching for a state in the address section.
◦Fixed an audio line issue with XM audio.
◦Corrected an issue that may cause a reset when receiving a corrupted weather broadcast.

Changes made from version 2.20 to 2.30:
◦Improved the method in which video settings are saved and restored.
◦Made Western keyboard style the default for Atlantic products.
◦Fixed address searching for some European countries where street names should be entered before street numbers.
◦Fixed a problem where the proximity alarm settings were being reset between power cycles.
◦Fixed issue with the display of addresses on custom map data fields.

Happy navigation...

GPS and Mobile News / Re: GPS use indoors, what's next?

I think its free, you need to use android phone, and a GPRS enables SIM card, according to google, its in beta stage and available for selected airports and shopping malls:
"Indoor maps (beta) are now available for select airports, shopping malls, and more. Learn more at g.co/indoormaps "

I didn't use it yet because I don't have android phone, I've to wait after Christmas if no one gifted to me, I'll purchase it myself!!.

cheers

I might make use of this, depending on the cost of course, it is was reasonable and updated regularly, it could save a lot of time if one is in a hurry to locate a shop in a large mall for a quick urchase, but not if one was simply browsing teh shops and strolling through  the mall/s..   :)
